A domain is the internet address of a website by name – Domain Name System (DNS).

The domain corresponds to a defined IP address consisting of a certain series of numbers and dots. For example, the IP address of Google is: 172.217.0.0

The domain is structured from right to left as follows:
The Top Level Domain (TLD) stands for the geographical or content-related orientation of the domain.
xxx.xxxxx.de
xxx.xxxxx.com
xxx.xxxxx.edu

The second level domain is the proper name or a specific designation of the website.
Examples:
xxx.linkedin.xx
xxx..telekom.xx
xxx.vw.xx

The third level domain describes a subdomain in the prefix. This can be the language version of a homepage, special content or the landing page for specific campaigns.
Example:
offers.xxxxx.xx
french.xxxxx.xx
landingpage.xxxxx.xx
